No muss no fuss....................
That guy you called must of been lazy!
Even IF he had to replace the key cylinder it could be done on the spot!

......... I don't think a 01 has the "transponder" security key.

My 84 Z-28 had no keys and a local guy had a set of keys made in 30 minutes
for $75 bucks!

BTW: The key cylinder is not actually IN the column. Its sorta mounted on the
outside under the plastic cover and held in place by some weird "security screws".

If you have to turn the wheels just pull the screws out of the rag joint.
