It looks to me like the courtesy light should light for the following conditions.
1) either or both doors open
2) the headlight switch rotated to the extreme left.
3) the switch on the courtesy light activated.
It also appears that the dome light would come on anytime the courtesy light is on.
This is based on my studies of the diagrams and schematics. I have already concluded that the schematics don't exactly match to car and can be only a guide at best.
Here is the drawing of the instrument panel in case it helps.
If you add a wire that I show as a green line, you should get it working.
If you want the switch to work, you must connect a ground the metal tab that the screw hole passes through.
