Yesterday I installed a set of 189 shoes on the rear of my '63 and found that they would not seat on the top pin. The problem was the parking brake strut being too long so I had to cut the notch a little deeper. This was done with both struts sandwiched in a vise so that they would be equal side to side. I tried the original push rods and found that the pistons were at the edge of the bore so the longer ones were installed.
Another modification being made is the use of non-stock rear hoses. Since I am replacing all the steel lines, I figured I could make the ones from the hose to the wheel cylinder a little shorter and used longer hoses. A front hose will work fine on the LH side and I found a 10" hose for the 1958 - 1960 full size cars with two female ends for the RH side. This is NAPA number 26960. I have fabricated to brackets to attach the hoses to the lower control arm, all this because I am too cheap to pay $30 -$45 each for custom hoses.
