This truck doesn't have a wrap around w/s so it is either a '64 or '65.
My grampa had a '65 GMC half ton with 6-lug wheels, granny-gear 4-speed, and was originally a V-6, but it had a smokey 283 in it.
Those old GMC V-6 are pretty scarce, and I would assume it's because they were not known for longevity. Could be the majority of them fell victim to owner neglect, or maybe they were low production from day one. I've only ever seen one or two of those in person, and it's been 20 years since I looked at one. IIRC the exaust ports are on the intake side of the head. It's a really strange set up.
I have never really read much feedback about that engine. I'd like to find one in a half ton that was unmolested, and rebuild it to factory spec, just because I love the oddball engines.
Torsion bars were used on the 60-61. Check the rear trailing arms for rust at the mounting points. Also the seams where they are welded together.
