When you are feeling better start doing crunches, you have a bad back because you have weak abdominals.
I see a chiropractor regularly.
Exactly what I was going to recommend Jim, this worked for me when I injured my back the first time when I was about 21. The quack shop doctor wanted to put me back to work and I refused because my right leg was going numb from a pinched nerve. I tried muscle relaxers, heat and cold and this exercise that a orthopedic specialist fixed it in a week or so. It stretches everything out and allows the spine to re-align itself. One thing just a little different was he told me to pull up my knees and rock back and forth on my back, worked for me.

I had one other experience that also worked for me, is an oriental form of medicine, it's called Ashaitsu. It consists of a girl that walks on your back, that was great, however the person doing it has to know the proper technique for it to be effective. Done correctly though it really helps,. I really had my doubts about it, but I felt great afterwards.
