So - here's my most recent weird one -
I'm up for a promotion so I applied for a new job that was posted.
Later that day I get a voicemail from a guy I went to High School with - who I haven't talked to in 35 years. He wanted to apply for the same job I just put in for and wanted me to write a letter of recommendation.
The only thing I remember about this guy is (a) he was a really good draftsman and (b) he had a crush on my then girlfriend, now wife of 30 years.
I graciously told him that since I had applied for the same job that probably removed me from the pool of available recommendation letter writers...
