Taking the above post a step further:
We have found that, as a general rule, when migrating an O.E. (original equipment) carburetor from one application to another, the donee engine should be within 3 percent (plus or minus 3 percent) of the donor engine.
Just doing a quick search of our database, Carter produced YF carburetors for Chevrolet 194, Nash 195, and A.M.C. 196 CID engines.
I have done no additional research on this, but would think that the Chevrolet linkage would be closer to Pontiac linkage than the Nash linkage.
Other than my opinion (others may differ) that the YF is a MUCH better carburetor than the Rochester B; there is another benefit. The Carter YF uses the exact same metering jets as the AFB, so tuning parts are readily available.
The only downside to the YF is that it uses a diaphragm type accelerator pump, which like neopreme plunger type accelerator pumps, is more problamatic than leather, especially for vehicles which are driven infrequently.
The Chevrolet 235 owners that switch to YF's from the Rochester B report better driveability (especially the lack of a hesitation), better power, and significantly better fuel economy PLUS the absence of leaks.
