It all depends on how much money you want to spend,,, But get rid of that cam first, way to big for the heads. I would say get a set of E-heads & then look at the piston depth to see where they set, then if you want good manners go with a cam that has a smaller lift ( 480-505) & a duration of somewhere (255-285) & an LSA of at least 111. For a 400 that will give you good power & will keep you out of the poor house in gas miliage. Once you find out about you pistons then we can help out better. But first get that cam out. Even not knowing about the pistons you could go to a Crane blueprint cam of a Ram Air III & it would give yo much better manners even with those heads. I gave a big range on the specs for the cam so don't be to alarmed as there will be all kinds in that range, thats where the info we need comes into play to figure out which cam would work best for you. Now to anwser your other question about the Ram Air exhaust manifolds that everyone over looked , They will work good on your car. I have a 462 in my 73 GTO with E-heads making 530hp & I use them & have found they work great & don't have the problems that you have or I have had with headers. Mine goes mid 11's . Mine 462 E-heads, SRP forged pistons (503 grams) Preformer RPM intake, eagle forged rods,1.65 comp roller tip rockers, roller chain & gears, Pertronix ign. Crane blue print Ram Air IV cam & a single Q-jet that I myself went through with a little help form Cliff Ruggles book, everything is balanced, 4 spd(M-22) & last a 3.73 rear end. It idles good with just enough lump to know there is an engine running under the hood.
