You're missing the point.

If they can start the race 3 wide, restarting the race 2 wide should be even easier/safer as it allows even more room.

There have been 14 driver that have died from injuries while racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The first in 1919 and the last in 1973.

There have been 12 fatal accidents in NASCAR at Daytona. The first in 1965 and the last in 2001.

Over the same time period - 1959 (year Daytona opened) to present - only 3 fatalities at Indy, 12 at Daytona.

It appears that fatal accidents are much more frequent in NASCAR than Indy cars.
