I agree with you Jack, grinding the lifter tie bars is not the right way to fix this. Where there were obvious clearance issues when the engine was initially built, not sure why it wasn't done right the first time...

The current lifters are Crower 66260:
Full Body Mechanical Roller Lifters (.842" dia. / .750" Bearing) V8 (Pontiac/Oldsmobile) Pontiac 1955-Up 326-455ci, Oldsmobile 1964-1984 260-455ci (Set of 16) Full Body Mechanical Roller Lifters

Looks like these will be ending up in the spare parts drawer. I think I'm going to need a bigger drawer.
