I bet it leaked out from dried seals and that's why it won't go; low fluid. Someone may have trashed it from trying to 'force it to drive' when the fluid was too low is also a possibility.
Knowing what the odometer reads would go a long way towards ballparking the value.
I can't see it being worth more than a grand unless it has super low miles.

Common for trans fluid to leak from the dipstick seal when sitting due to the convertor drainback.
