Skip, I've dyno and drag strip tested the Tomahawk.
On the dyno have swapped back and forth between a q-jet and 850 Holley DP, with and without spacers, etc.
Did the same swap at the track during the Shootout at Norwalk a few years back.
Made runs with my Q-jet, with and without a spacer, and my Holley 850 with and without a spacer. It ran faster with both carbs when a 1" spacer was used.
The dyno told us the same thing, although it made considerably LESS power with the q-jet on it without a spacer compared to the Holley 850, probably related to what you mentioned in your post.
With a spacer they pulls were virtually the same. So at least from the testing we've done, it likes a 1" spacer.
Tests with the Torker II show the same trend, at least a 1" spacer is needed to get the most out of them.......Cliff
