Sounds like fun Mark. fwiw my 90 bird minus engine and trans only cost me $300. No rot very little rust anywhere a few dings and needs a new nose piece and paint... Perfect for what I have in mind. Was a base v6 car.
Heres from where I found it. Once washed it looked a bunch better... Was thinkin just repaint same color as its actually pretty nice... however Daughter has a medium cadet blue mazda and the color is growin on me... NO birds I ever saw in the shade of blue the mazda has so it would help it stand out from the rest. Just more work to do it right.
Car is getting a 12 point cage and at minimum mini tubbed... thinkin minimum of a 325/50-15 and considering M+H drag radial 390/45-15 or similar size Hoosier or M/T. Plan to keep outboard edge of tire about where stock sits maybe up to 1" max further out... these cars just look dumb with a tire too far outboard or inboard for that matter.
Surprisingly...my '60 9.3 Pontiac/Olds rear measures approx 2" narrower wheel flange to wheel flange than the stock Firebird 7.5" rear. Probably run a spool but might modify to fit a Ford 9" centersection instead, leavin the option to run locker or spool.
If you stumble on a 91-92 nose section I want it! However a decent 86-90 base model nose isnt all that bad.
Been too busy on the 270 hemi 34 plymouth coupe old school hot rod to do much on my own car... but it pays for my parts and I'm really likin this thing. Coupe body is on 32 ford frame we boxed, wears a 32 ford grill, is highboy style with hair pin front and stock wishbone rear... has a quick change under it... I adapted a 64 torqueflite to the hemi and were usin push button shift... upgraded trans for modern convertor and finally made use of a 3000 stall convertor I pulled in 1991... I doubt the little hemi stalls much past 2200 but it will be better than tryin to run a 13" big car convertor for sure... Will have 17" truck spoked wheels out back and matching 16's up front... I have been custom wiring all this past week... what a time eater... gauges and battery kill switch tomorrow and that completes the electrics... all wiring came from leftovers from other wiring kits and spare hardware in the shop... Why???...because David said in the old days we made do with what we had before considerin buyin something... the whole project has been this way... We started late last fall... and have 3 other projects we are doing at same time... I'll get some pics when we take it to a friday nite cruise... which just might happen by months end... I'm motivated...Then my car will have a space in the shop!
