That 3rd picis a good shot of what yours should look like. The spring goes down on the arm of the carb & should be at a 90 deg. angle to the brkt., & run horzontial to the manifold. The reason your is proberly so hard to operate is the tension on the springs you have on there now. If the spring pressure is that hard it will ware out the throttle shaft as it will be pulling it so hard to one side which will cause you all kinds of other problems with the carb like bad idle because of a vac. leak being created from the ware on the shaft.
