The 1st pic is a shot of Fireball with the trophy girls, which would not upload in my last post.
Marvin Paunch won the D-500 in '61. This a a recreation of his winning ride, which I believe was a '60 model. His car had been raced the the previous season and was not really expected to win. But Fireball had problems, so Paunch took the win. Check out the driver in the last pic--it's Dave Despain, with mic in hand.
Pontiac would have won 3 in a row, but in '60, Junior Johnson, who was drafting the leader, with only a few laps to go, won the race when the back windshield of the Pontiac blew out, causing it to spin.

I've heard JJ say that the Pontiacs were so much faster than his Chevy, he knew the only way to keep up was to draft a Pontiac. He credits himself with discovering the advantages of drafting. He later drove a Pontiac himself, I think.
If there are still any of you guys who have never done it, Google 1961 Daytona 500, and 1962 Daytona 500. You can find all the qualifying and finishing results, as well as a 6 or 7 minute highlights video of both races. It's "must see" entertainment for all Pontiac fans. I love it !
