Here's what I see as the problem with the "delete it and it's gone" strategy:

When there is (always) money involved, companies will be created to resurrect those deleted social media pages. Prime example is the "Internet Archive: Wayback Machine" http://archive.org/web/ (Take it for test run and search for an old "long gone" website and see what you find).

Doesn't take much imagination to see the same will happen with all social media and posts IMO.
