ok good news. The light doesn't go on after it's started. I guess I haven't started it for a while...
it is about -5C here so it ran a little rough at the beginning, but a bit of time and it ran/idled fine with no low oil pressure light.
I am still going to get an oil pressure gauge, but false alarm.
Now to clean the spots and find the leak as per the first thread
