The jack in your picture does not look correct for a Firebird. What is the length and the date code? I have not seen a Pontiac jack with that extra metal hinged piece by the hook. Also, it looks to have the heavier mast than what is typical for A and F bodies.
I realize that the MPC says that the keystone style was the only one carried over to 1971, but, despite what it says is not the jack style that has been observed as correct for either plant for 1971. First, I don't want to speak in absolutes since we know this stuff goes, but, a number of years ago I put together a chart for the 1970-71 cars with build date, plant and jack style and jack date code. I looked at a few original cars and even called/emails cars for sale and on Ebay that were original owner, low mileage or look to have been untouched. I was seeing a consistent pattern of the keystone jack for 1970 Norwood, the iron "T" style for 1971 Norwood, and the square style for both 1970 and 1971 VN on data points for these cars where the jack date code made sense to the build date. All three of these styles are around 34"-35" long so they all fit the trunk brackets and are interchangeable (but note that in cars with the space saver spare, the brackets were set in different and the jack laid parallel to the rear seat back). Furthermore, I noticed that the A-bodies seemed to follow the same pattern but I did not really collect data on them. I did see a number of 1970-71 Fremont cars that had the same square mast jack. In fact, a few years ago I picked one up on my local craigslist that came out of a 1971 Fremont built Lemans and has a date code of C1. These square mast jacks are not exactly falling out of trees and are especially scarce this side of the Rockies.
