I'm going to have to watch that movie again as I completely missed a '68 in the film.
As for how it was 'back then'...I graduated HS in '76...same as the class depicted in the film and I would say it's pretty close to teen life in the day.
The only exception would be all that crap about chasing 'freshmen' all over the place and putting them through the ringer. Not where I was anyway.
