An alternative approach to keeping stuff around until you die, and then the family having to deal with hoarding issues that you leave behind (see the show Hoarders for a more in depth description of exactly what hoarding is)
would be to start selling stuff now and feel the rush of rejuvenation to finally get rid of all that dead weight and have a fresh pile of cash and some fun along the way. You can buy the wife and kids some new stuff with all the extra cash while you're still alive, and when you die they will probably talk better about you.
