Okay, someone help me out here- what am I missing on this story?

"This GTO was previously a campaign car for Pontiac, also known as a "CO-PO", touring dealerships in order to promote Pontiac's GTO which makes this car such a collectible....

I also have the documents providing the vehicle's remarkable history including a list of dealerships in which the car was showed at."

Why would Pontiac ship a production GTO around to various Pontiac dealers to "promote" the GTO, when those dealerships would already have GTOs sitting on their lots for sale? And I won't even touch the COPO thing.
