Just a note that I got mine done also, pretty much just like you did it. I just bought a 12" hinge though and it was pretty much perfect. It took a little bit of figuring out where to rivet it so it would work correctly but it fits great and has never worked so smooth! I even took it all apart, sand blasted and repainted the inner shell and got a new tire pressure sticker for it and even gave the front a quick coat of satin black Krylon Fusion to spruce it up a bit.
