The control unit I use will need capabilities for fuel, ignition, boost control, possibly 16 injectors, coil on plug, etc, to work for me.

The MS II v3.0 ECU in my car cost just about $300 to build as a kit. You don't have to build it, you can buy it complete. A new MS III ECU (built) is $600... I challenge anyone to show me an aftermarket ECU that has this level of performance, reliability and tuning capability for less $. Remember, everything is open source! You're not paying for someone to slap their brand name on it (Holley, Edelbrock, etc,). MS will handle
all the capabilities you list above... it can be set up to run
anything: 2 cylinders to 12. Boost. Juice. Electronic auto trans... no problem. The tuning software (Tuner Studio for MS) is free too.
You're right, any throttle body of appropriate size will work... it's just an air valve. I use an older, 1000 cfm Holley TBI, minus the injector pods, as a throttle body. It has the TPS and IAC built in. In your application, it would still look like a blow-thru carb set up, sort of...
I got my injectors off ebay for about $80, new in the box (LS1, Bosch type, 36pph ). Obviously, yours need to be sized to their task.

I'm a huge fan of old school brute horsepower controlled by modern day electronics... maybe you can tell.
I also like to save a buck where I can.
