I had a similar problem with my starter. It was one of the mini starters & on the inside of the sol. the wire that delivers the 12 volt power had broken on the inside & was just barely touching. When it got hot it would pull away from the case. When it was cold it would make just enough contact to make it start. I'd say check your sol. first
