In this case, the Trim Tag decodes that Fisher Body assembly was May 29th, the 626th car built that day. This places this Esprit very near the end of production for the day. Production averaged out to about 750 cars per day at Van Nuys. #742 is the biggest production number I have for any day during 1970 model year. I agree the door Cert. label date likely does reflect Van Nuys final assembly, but have never seen proof of when this label was applied. We know the doors were hung at Fisher, & that final painting was done at the final assembly plant.
My main reason to point out the date difference is simply that this is not often seen. I have data on 871 '70 Firebirds at present & very few show different months from the one location to the other.
I've wondered if occasionally a body built at Fisher could have gotten damaged & needed repair before being sent over for final build out, accounting for some lag time.
