Is the engine/car all original?
Carb ever been worked on?
I've seen way too many coincidence goofy things happen to a car, that you would never think were possible...I hope this is the case, and not an ass abusing your car...
Have you always used 100% gas in it. Even E-10 gas can goof up a carb when you least need it...
A compression test might help you out...
