The 1983 unit will have a "soft" stator shaft, sun shell and pump rings. Also has the older design low and OD sprags. It also has the early style input shaft same size as the 200-4R from what I can remember?

We used to put the hardened sun shell in them, good pump rings, and hardened stator shaft and they would hold up pretty good for moderate high performance work. Mostly warmed over SBC's. Nothing I'd want behind a 455 Pontiac, at least not one that would ever see the dragstrip and good traction......Cliff
