If you can fit it into the build forged rods should get used, not just for the safety factor, but like a drag race motor lighter parts make for a faster reving motor and the rev build out off the turns on a road course is where a lot of races are won!
Also the stress load due to weight quadruples with each doubling of RPM, so do not think that even a 15% reduction in rotating mass is not worth the 500 bucks for new rods!
