I bought my Lucy Blue 70 Formula from the original owner in 1982 with 60K miles. It was a late car, built in June. We lived in the same town and had the same insurance agent (State Farm) and with the owner's permission he gave me the claim history on the car. The only accident was a minor bump in the rear end that broke the fiberglass panel.
It had the pieces of metal on the bottom. I was also told it had the late style quarter panels (something about the vent shape).
I think the metal pieces were probably a running change in the 70 model year.
Are there any variations in the fiberglass?
