Sometimes the headers are the problem. I have an ever so small interference with the clutch linkage on my 79 4speed that has hooker competition headers. I also had header interference with a shift linkage in a 79 403 auto car I used to own...needed to bend the primary tubes on that one.

The engine mount doesn't fit the mount on the crossmember even without the headers in place so something is wrong with the mounts for sure.
