A bit off topic...
I was waiting at the Dentist today and picked up a Volkswagen magazine (only very slightly better than picking up womans mag - there were lots of them there!!).
In it was an interesting article on how VW Australia had loaned a 1966 Beetle to the Australian Antarctic facility in Antarctica. To test the car under extreme conditions. Obviously as an advertising exercise which must have worked because I can recall those ads. It was there right through the Antarctic winter of 1966, most often in temperatures below -40c.
They made a detailed point on how they had to specially develop an oil with the viscosity of keroscene to be able to start the car.
Reading all that makes me wonder what sort of lubricants are used in say Alaska in winter?
