I have a Nov '63 built '64 GTO from Fremont.
AFAIK, the moldings were same all model year long.
The only difference is the clips and possibly the holes in the body for the clips.
IIRC, my car needs the late style clips based on the holes in my body.
I discussed this a few months back with another member here by email.
Here is what I wrote then about mine:
I have 2 ROUND holes for mounting each clip.
They are 1-1/2" center to center, vertical.
The lower hole is 5/16" dia.
The upper hole is probably a screw hole, about 1/8" dia.
The Parts Book isn't any real help.
The Vendors show an early '64 Type Clip and a 2nd style late '64 Type Clip.
Since my car is relatively early, I kinda expected to need the early clips, but they mount without screws. And I couldn't figure out if my top holes work with that style or were screw holes.
The ones the vendors call the late '64 style look to use round holes.
They mount with screws but I didn't know what size, so still wasn't sure if my 1/8" dia. top holes are okay for the screws.
In the PY Catalog, it looks in the tiny picture that the retainer clip mounting screws ARE bigger than the finish screws used at the ends of the molding (the screws that are exposed and can be seen when the molding is mounted).
That looks to match the holes on my body and fender, the end holes seem smaller in dia. than the top holes for the hidden clips.
The Parts Book does NOT show an early and late '64 Retainer Clip.
They list p/n 9774531 for the Retainer which seems like an early enough p/n for '64 application. A bit confusing since they say 10 per car in '64 (but 12 of same for '65) and my car is definitely set up for 12 Retainers. Possibly only (10) used for the '64 big cars or else (10) was a mistake.
They also list a Clip Package under p/n 9777047, 2 Packages per car needed. That is a late '64 p/n but possibly just means they include (6) Retainers in each Package (and possibly all the screws too). Various Package p/ns were released late year for Service use, so this Package probably for that purpose and not an indication of a late retainer design change.
The front & rear molding to fender & body finish screws are listed as p/n 187605 and described as No. 8-15 x 3/4". This screw was Stainless Steel, Oval Head.
The Retainer mounting screws were p/n 9420755. This screw is listed as a No. 10-20 x 1/2". This one was Phosphate coated carbon steel, Hex Head. The Hex Head isn't just hex with flat top, it has some sort of recess in the top perhaps for an allen head bit in the head as well. The illustration in the Parts Book for the Hex head screws isn't conclusive.
I haven't pursued it any further.
I agree with everybody else, ones on the right aren't '64. Whether the ones on the left are a matched '64 set, you'll have to figure out.
Check the holes in your body. That will tell you if you need early or late clips.
If mine used late clips, that would suggest the change in clip style was done pretty early in the model year.
See if your holes match to the ones I described on my car.
If anybody has a car that used the early clips, I'd be interested in learning what the mounting holes in the body look like.
