30 years ago I drove my '65 GTO to our company technical training center in Sacramento. Week long auto tech course. Another mechanic from our Fresno location was there, saw my car, and stated that he had a '65 GTO, with a tripower and a 389, and he was clocked at over 165 MPH by the police before he lost control and wrecked it in a fig orchard. He said he was running the stock 4 speed and 4.88 gears. I guess he had the worlds only 13,500 RPM-capable 389.
