Oldsmobile uses essentially the same oiling system as Pontiac. There's a thread-in plug ahead of the distributor, and most--not all--Olds engines received a drilled plug from GM. Many of the aftermarket plug kits include a solid plug rather than drilled.
One of the Olds blocks I inspected was filled with crap up to the rearmost lifter on that bank. Had to pull the plug out and force the sludge out.
I'll never build either engine (Olds or Pontiac) without a bleed hole in that plug.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would mount a campaign to NOT use a vented plug there. Better distributor gear oiling, no dead-end oil passage...what's not to like?
