This happened after you changed the starter?

Looks like the battery cable on the starter shorted out.
With that connection should have been a wire that ran to the alternator.
(the big wire connected to the alternator)

There is a fusible link probably in that harness you're holding by the valve cover.

From the big wire at the alternator it goes to a junction in that harness where other wires branch off with most going to the fuse box area.

Could be any possible reasons, need more info and/or pics?
