It took me a few tries to get it right as well. Mine looks a lot like pic 2 in post 9. The plastikote I had was a pretty old can. Not sure of the quality today. It looks like you were getting pretty close. Maybe set it up so you can get 3 even coats and then move it directly into a warmed oven (maybe 140 degrees or so).
