Personally I don't see what the big deal is all about. I have changed oil in plenty of my cars at the recommended intervals with no problems. If a "cheap" oil filter changed regularly provides enough protection for the engine to last well past 200,000 miles, what's the problem? The rest of the car is worn out anyway. I have NEVER had an engine problem due to "dirty" oil. Not arguing, just saying.....
