If you choose to use the factory maintenance schedule and it works for you that's fine.

And with today's cars using emission/'cleaner' burning vehicles we don't need to change the oil every 3000 miles.

How often do we change the oil on many of our older v-8 hobby cars ? Limited street use, a few thousand miles a year. Fair weather driving. No dust storms. Down the drag strip on occasions.
