While I applaud your compassion for Burt, I think it's misplaced.
Burt was doing exactly what he wanted to do every minute of that whole dog and pony show. Not sure how much he was being paid but on top of it, he got a standing ovation. I bet he went home thinking "when can I do that again" not "I'm getting too old for this".
Millions of people would gladly trade places with him and he knows it.
