I have fixed many cracked heads using repair pins like what was done here. Most crack repair pins are tapered and try to spread the crack apart, so it is very important to start the first two pins out past the end of the crack to be sure the ends are completely gone before the rest of the crack is repaired. They generally work good, but for $2900 I would pass also.

The better repair pins are straight, and have threads that are shaped in a way that pulls each half of the crack together. The tighter you tighten the pins[until they break off] the tighter it pulls the crack together. These pins are made by Lock-N-Stitch. Much better system for crack repair.
