605 PY Posts and ifdsteve nails it. It is a reality show.
They do multiple takes of each part of the "action"
They have a "plot"
They have a "hero" or "heroes"
I really thought John Wallace was going to post up the answer to 'What is the "Tell"?
Post #468 "I have many videos of my Firebird leaving.
You can see on slow motion the front rising up at the 2nd light, which is .500 second before the bottom light, which is .500 second from green.
(that's 1 second!)"
Post #478 "It would be easy for a starter with a flashlight to mitigate such an obvious tell - just wait 1 second before turning the light on. It isn't plausible that every aspect of this show isn't discussed in great detail by the participants, ...
(Or the Producer or Film Crew, John). Deal is John you don't really see "The Start" because obviously there would be a time delay before the cars actually moved, as you said. In the one show, for drama, they watch the film to see if the light was on before Kelly's car started to move. Of course the light was on, it had to be on (as Wallace said about one second earlier).
That was my point about Kelly always leaving first and never red lighting, it is impossible for the star to redlight when the the show people put the film together.
The 'tell" is the Producer. He decides what the action will be. When the cameras on on the outside of the cars, inside the cars, behind the cars and a shot of two cars going by at some speed at the 1/8th mile flashlight. They announce the "spread" between the cars.
It iS a reality show, like ifdsteve says and "Anybody that thinks otherwise belongs in the "Hillary is Honest" fan club!"
Some on this board, "The Expert Bracket Racers" seem to have gotten caught up in the drame. Sure the cars are fast and quick on a real track. Real street racing does not have Police keeping the actors and other people out of danger, helicopters, ambulances, fork lifts to move wrecked cars off the "track", etc.
The only real deal is the arrogance and lack of filming knowledge of a few drag racers on this site.
