Flightaware is a great site, I use it any time someone I know is flying. It's pretty accurate, and a great way to keep track of when you need to leave to pick them up at the airport. haha

One of the westbound departures out of Cleveland goes right over our house, so when my wife had to fly through Midway a few months ago, I tracked her location and was able to go outside at the right moment to look up and show our daughter that mommy was on that plane!

And, it's interesting what some pilots will fly through and what some pilots won't go near. I'm an air traffic controller, so this is what my view will be for the next several months....thunderstorms making my life miserable! You can have 9 out of 10 pilots fly right through something and not say a word, but there's always 1 needy crew clogging up your frequency with a ton of requests.

Or, there are days when every aircraft you talk to needs to deviate from their flight planned route and/or change altitudes to try and find smoother air, and it's utter chaos.
