I knew someone would raise this issue. The rear tires are 26.1". So with a 3:55 rear, the calculator says 70 mph would be 3200 rpm (not 4000 that I am turning). These are rebuilt factory gauges (tach and speedometer), not aftermarket. The clutch does not feel like it is slipping. So I do not know how to explain this but you raise a good point. All I can say is that I have driven the car for 11,000 miles over the last 8 years and the tach says 4000 when the speedo says 70. Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful comments and suggestions.
