As for the theory of why they had that etched glass on some 68's I think logically it was simply to highlight the absence of the vent windows which was a big PR push at GM and it was ended when the bean counters decided it was costing too much. I guess variables like glass supply contracts, assembly plant inventories and the variance in those inventories between tinted and non-tinted are why its hard to define a cut off point, there must be a Service Bulletin about it out there somewhere.
