I've never seen a vin stamp like that on any 72 Pontiac. I very highly doubt it's the original engine. It may be numbers matching, but not the born with engine. Sometimes people go crazy with the verbiage and claim ignorance.
Think about it, if that was a true numbers matching Blue/White 72, it would be going for a lot more than that.
