Check the code the next time the check engine light comes on - it'll tell you what's wrong. Unless it's lying: My V6 Acura was acting funny, and the code said it was a "bad throttle body." After replacing it three times, I consulted an Acura forum and learned it was a bad "app sensor." (Throttle position sensor.) Fixed that, and the problem disappeared.
