From the damage shown this looks like it was a really serious rain/flood/mudslide event.

The photos themselves arent really captioned so its hard to say what was going on
in each shot. There are a few more pics of cars ( some buried up to the top of the doors )
but most are property damage.

(edit: the pics actually do have captions.. according to the caption they are searchers making
sure there are no bodies in the car .. so the car must have been washed into the gully where it is
sitting)

I just find myself hoping that it was a 2bbl garden variety Catalina and not
something like a 2+2 4 spd car..

One thing I do find a bit amusing is how many ( Looters will be shot ! ) signs
that are displayed around the carnage..
