Was the '38 a six or straight-eight? The GM straight-eights of the thirties were truly torque monsters. I had them in a '36 Olds and a '37 Buick, and helped a friend get one running in his '34 Pontiac. All of those cars would lay rubber from a standstill in 2nd gear! Of course the only tires we had were rock-hard rubber...
