Back in '91 me and two of my best friends drove my '68 Firebird from western South Dakota to the Pontiac Nats in Englishtown towing a 4x8 trailer with tools, av gas, another 12 bolt with 4.11s and some spare parts. Got to another friends in New Jersey and swapped out my 2.73 rear end for the other one and drove to the track towing the trailer.
Track told me I couldn't run below 12.0 (no roll bar, racing belts, I'd never even seen a rule book) so we pulled some timing out of it and ran 12.05 N/A, went out first round and drove back to his place.
Couple days later we swapped rear ends back and headed down to D.C. and went to the Pentegon and the Smithsonian. Stayed a few days and headed home. All told we probably drove 4500 miles. 17 days of an epic vacation that we have on an 8mm tape. A lot of stories attached to this trip, this is the condensed version.
