that has not been my understanding;
As I have understood it, all 69-72 2-piece intake manifolds are essentially the same piece with only the part number changed, and small revisions for lets say intake cross over vs cylinder head mounted temp senders, with only the seperate exhaust cross over changing in 1972 for the 2nd design external choke coil;
so the raised floor was necessary for the cast iron exhaust cross over that passed underneath it - iirc the cast iron intake has roughly a 1/4" thick section of metal separating the plenum floor and the exhaust cross over.
